SEPTETO SANTIAGUERO
Genre: Son, Cuban music, Tropical
Twice Latin Grammy Winners:
one of Cuba's finest exponents of traditional music, with spectacular performances packed into exciting, ever-changing and entertaining moments, returns to Japan!
Septeto Santiaguero, two-time Latin Grammy winners and one of the leading exponents of Cuba's musical heritage, brings the authentic grooves of the island’s eastern region back to Japan this summer. The intoxicating emotions of the son, the guaracha, and the bolero—reintroduced to a global audience by the Buena Vista Social Club—are given a powerful new shot of energy by this masterful eight-piece ensemble from Santiago de Cuba.
The intention of leader Fernando Dewar is not to dwell on a nostalgic feeling for a bygone sound or compete with the urban intensity of Havana’s timba bands. Instead, he strips down traditional Cuban styles to their essential swing, recharging them with fresh vocal harmonies, fat basslines, driving tres and guitar hooks, and sizzling trumpet runs that conjure up the scorching heat of Santiago de Cuba. Applying this approach to a mix of original material and revisited classics, Septeto Santiaguero offers a powerful demonstration that reimagined traditional forms still have a strong relevance for contemporary generations.
Since its formation in 1995, the group has emerged as a key force for revitalizing the island’s traditional sounds. Now celebrating their 31st anniversary, they have reinforced their status through award-winning albums and collaborations with salsa legends such as Rubén Blades, Ismael Miranda, Oscar D’León, and José Alberto “El Canario.”
More than just a concert, this long-awaited return is a celebration of three decades of musical excellence. Step into the heat and the rhythmic embrace of Santiago de Cuba’s finest—the ultimate grand finale to your summer!
